Fabrics : Which ones are the best for me?

Selecting the correct fabrics for your clothes can be daunting. It's really not that hard. Here are a few simple questions to ask yourself

  1. Do I perspire alot?

If the answer is YES, then select natural fabrics with good weight. Wool cotton and linen will all allow your body to breathe, and let moisture from your skin evaporate. Don't select very light fabrics unless you are in warm climates. Always wear a thin undershirt to absorb perspiration.

If the answer is NO? That's great, then move to the next question

2. Is my skin sensitive to touch?

If the answer is again, yes, then select natural fibers like wool cashmere and brushed cotton. Pure wools can be itchy, but wool with cashmere and silk will really help feel smoother on the skin. Pure cotton or brushed cottons will feel much better on sensitive skin.

3. Where will I mostly be when I am in these clothes?

Are these work clothes and do I work in a moderate to cool dry climate? If yes, then wool and wool blends are fine (yes most clothing has blended man made fabrics that won't wrinkle). If I work in a warm climate, then linen and poplin cottons work best for both dry and humid climates. Light weight blended wools are also good. Just make sure you do not have sensitive skin. What if I am a traveler and on a plane, train or automobile a lot? If this is the case, wool and cotton blends will work for you (again provided you don't have sensitive skin). These modern fabrics will hold well and won't wrinkle much at all.
